Stuffed Cabbage Rolls (Golubtsy)

Stuffed cabbage rolls Ingredients
1 large cabbage
1 lb of ground beef meat
½ lb cooked rice
1 onion (finely chopped)
½ cups tomato sauce
¼ cup mayonnaise
3 cups of water
½ tablespoon salt
¼ tablespoon of pepper

Bring water to boil in a large pot. Place cabbage in the pot so water covers its top and boil for about 15 minutes. After cabbage started turning soft, remove it from water and carefully separate each leaf without braking it. In a large bowl combine ground beef, cooked rice, finely chopped onion and seasonings. Mix it well and add 1-1.5 cups of water. Mix again until water is absorbed by meat. Start filling each cabbage leaf with this mix. It is recommended that you start filling up the largest leaves first placing more meat mix into them accordingly.

After meat is placed in the middle, fold both sides of the leaf in and roll it up by securing the meat stuffing inside. Place each roll on the bottom of a large cooking pan forming several layers. Mix tomato sauce, mayo and water in a large bowl. Stir it well and pour onto the top of golubtsy. Bring it to boil and boil for about 25 minutes. Remove from heat and let it stand for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with sour cream or ketchup.
