Russian Kvas


Ingredients
2 lb flour
2 cups milk
6-7 eggs
1 lb butter
2 cups sugar
1 bag yeast
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon vanilla
Cooking Spray or vegetable oil
1 piece of cooking paper


Prepare dough by slightly heating up milk dissolving yeast in it and adding about 1 lb of flour. Mix it well and let stand covered under with a towel in a warm space. In about 1 hour when dough raises up, add a mix of 6 egg yolks, salt, sugar, vanilla and softened butter. Mix the leftover egg whites with the rest of flour and wait for dough to rise once again. In a meanwhile prepare a tall baking pan that is lined with a brown baking paper. Spray cooking oil or vegetable oil on the inside of cooking paper so it becomes heavy and wet. Fill the backing pan with a batter about ½ of the pan’s height and set it aside in a warm spot. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. When dough that is formed inside the baking pan raises again, cover the surface of it with a beaten yolk and bake the kulich for about 1 hour.
